Chompalompicus discovered 9 months ago- I liked the Eskimo quote.

acousticnewton rated 8 months ago- From the page: ""The essence of Christianity is told us in the Garden of Eden history. The fruit that was forbidden was on the tree of knowledge. The subtext is, All the suffering you have is because you wanted to find out what was going on." --Frank Zappa"

sparlo rated 8 months ago- Yes, the eskimo quote is the best, though it was hard to decide. From the page: "Eskimo: "If I did not know about God and sin, would I go to hell?" Priest: "No, not if you did not know." Eskimo: "Then why did you tell me?" --Annie Dillard, 'Pilgrim at Tinker Creek'"

gerardmcgarry rated 9 months ago- From the page: ""Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?" --Epicurus"

profbleak rated 9 months ago- From the page: ""When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realised that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me." --Emo Philips"

NeverxxSurrender rated 9 months ago- "We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart." --H. L. Mencken

mischala rated 9 months ago- i liked the first, about how were all atheists, except some choose to believe in one"

- no, thungurKnifur, we do not all have to answer that question, being religious does not nessicarily mean belief in monotheism. Religious thought, free of dogma, welcomes questions such as these, for without these questions theological progress stagnates and wonder is lost. When it comes down to it, its all faith, no person has ever seen an atom, yet thousands have claimed seeing god, even if god is different for everyone, so are atoms (quantum mech. wave/particle) I digress, sorry.

- I view atheism and religion as the same thing. There is the same smugness about things that are impossible to prove or disprove, so why waste time upholding convenient ideological systems to support some generalized "meaning of life"? First lets focus on *rationally* figuring out what the fuck is in front of us before we start prematurely creating definitive answers where there are none. I hate religion, I refuse the word "God" because it's ridiculously simplistic and childish, and atheism just seems to be yet another child mocking the fool in the corner. Fuck the whole thing. All this living is spent focused on death and dying? Let's get to that when we get to that. Fuck. Wouldn't you rather be having sex than be talking about this bullshit? Seriously.

ketogah rated 9 months ago- I am not an atheist but I have the greatest respect for their bravery. I am not sure what I am and that is fine by me at the moment. I do like these quotes and I like to question things and to have the freedom to do so. thank you furlan http://furlan.stumbleupon.com/
