- What's the deal? They're just waiting for us to lower the threat level, and then everyone is off guard, and they'll swoop in and whammo? Does it mean anything? What is the meaning of the word significant? "of a noticeably or measurably large amount" How much is a measurably large risk of terrorist attack? 1%? There have been around a half-dozen significant attacks in the past five years. That equals something like a .3% risk of attack. Mind you, that is not the risk value for most places. Most places it's Zero point Zero Zero percent. So what we ultimately have is this completely ludicrous restructuring of the government, we have this drastic shift in the attitudes and mindsets of millions. 100% chance that we've all gone insane.

- We should have had this Department a long time ago. The Christian right have warned of terrorism in America since the 60`s.

- The DHS does nothing to prevent terrorism, and is yet another bureaucracy that will be impossible to ever get rid of. The "threat levels" go up every time the W's approval ratings go down, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with terrorists, since our intelligence doesn't appear to be of any use anyway.
Maybe if our foreign policy included more diplomacy and less arrogance we would make fewer enemies. I think making a concerted effort to not blow up civilians and their water supplies, hospitals, etc. might also help. The very nature of terrorism is such that once there are terrorists, you can't prevent them from acting without complete knowledge and control of every persons actions, better known as a police state. - The DHS does nothing to prevent terrorism, and is yet another bureaucracy that will be impossible to ever get rid of. - As one of those people that is 'randomly' searched EVERY DAMN TIME I fly, I wish to say.... That the people doing the searching are still incompetent. No, not bitter about being searched; they just don't search well and couldn't find their asses with both hands.
