- If you think people should not have guns then argue to have the second amendment repealed but do not try to convince people that it wasn't meant to insure private ownership of guns. Many of these quotes are from the very people who signed the constitution as well as other patriots from that period of time. The second amendment was clearly meant to protect the right for every citizen of United States of America to bear arms. It was not meant to protect the rights the the national guard to bear arms. Think about it. An amendment to protect the rights of soldiers to bear arms? That's just stupid. As if King George was going to show up a few weeks after The Colonies declared independence and say, "Excuse me. I would like to fight you all but first I must insist you hand over all of your guns." And then our soldiers would say, "No way King George. We have an amendment that protects our rights, strictly as soldiers, to have guns." Then King George would be all like, "Drat! Foiled again!"
