Wow. Such extremes, here. Why isn't it just, "We recognize you as a believer, and welcome you into the church, but if you want to be a member, you must be baptized by immersion. And here's why we believe that..." ? Please, people, Christians are Christians. Saved by grace and faith. If we are to believe the death bed salvation prayers are acceptable to right the wrongs of the past -- be truly saved, without full immersion baptism, then we must agree that baptism is not required for salvation, but rather a necessary (if possible) rite to follow as Christ has commanded.
