Coloradosteve discovered 3 months ago- "Right now everyone is talking recession. The dollar is growing weaker every day, people are getting their homes foreclosed upon, and joblessness is at an astronomical high. So whats my answer to all this? I say we legalize a bunch of drugs, and Im not just talking about medical marijuana either."

jonah561 rated 3 months ago- standard drug shit, but the comments, seem to cover most of the arguments. i even wrote one my self which i never do.

cyb3rdemon rated 3 months ago- Don't like the "only over 21" rule. Having people old enough to serve in the military but not old enough to smoke some weed seems hypocritical.

magnus099 rated 3 months ago- legalize ALL drugs...? retards..

an3as rated 3 months ago- Lets do

Lambdoid rated 3 months ago- This is a very sensible argument. Anyone who wants drugs can get them already, despite their illegality. I'm not saying that drugs don't cause harm - they clearly do, but their illegality brings with them a whole load of problems associated with adulterants and having to hang around dodgy people who're going to break your legs or shoot you if you don't pay them on time, as well as acquisitive crime. Illicit drugs are also known as controlled substances. The fact is they're controlled by criminals with no concern for the welfare of their customers. If governments were in control of the market, then they could actually limit the harm associated with them. People have been altering their consciousnesses for millennia, so it seems hypocritical that we make some substances illegal, while alcohol and tobacco are legal.

yukonwags rated 3 months ago- In response to artemisjager:
"I really don't think that legalizing ALL drugs is going to solve anything. The government's job is to protect people...."
--This part of the argument is invalid because either the govt. isn't here to make moral choices for us, or you believe that illegal drugs will become prescriptions instead of a commodity like booze, which really doesn't have any health benefits.
"Simply put, something with a great potential for abuse and physical harm (such as heroin, cocaine, meth, etc.) should not be available for recreational use."
--Sounds a lot like prohibition (which failed miserably by the way and gave way to empowering organized crime *cough cough*).
"Something that DOESN'T meet those requirements (psychedelics, marijuana), on the other hand, should be legalized."
--Lol so you want to legalize pot, LSD, and shrooms but heaven forbid anything else.
"This guy says that we could have businesses donate money to rehab clinics - but is it fair to create more addicts?...."
--Why not all of them? The reason the prisons are so overcrowded is mostly due to drug offenders who commited nonviolent crimes. If we took the stance that they had an addiction problem (will full funding from drug taxation) instead of hauling them to jail, I believe we'd see less addicts. Also, you say legalizing everything will create more addicts? If heroin were legal tomorrow, would you go out and try it? I know I wouldn't.
"And honestly, do you trust pharmaceutical companies to manage these substances?..."
--Uhhh so you're saying pharmaceutical companies are gonna lace our weed? Again the argument is invalid because those companies make pure substances in sterile environments. What you're saying is they don't give accurate test results of those substances' side effects. We know the side effects of illegal drugs because they've been tested on the street by millions of people.
"Keeping people out of prison is nice, too, but we don't have to legalize the drugs to do that....Donate to your local rehab clinic and campaign to help get those addicts sent to those clinics."
--and continue fighting a losing battle that sounds nice on the outside but is essentially meaningless.
"Just legalizing these will not solve anything...."
--Again with the faulty rhetoric (your morals shouldn't be instilled upon others). Just because you believe they are too dangerous to be legal doesn't mean people shouldn't be able to make up their own minds if they want to do them or not.
"You simply do not make highly addictive things easy to obtain."
--Of course not, that's why you wait until you turn 21 to purchase booze (which recent studies have concluded that it is the most addictive substance topping even heroin).- In response to artemisjager:

M-Nome rated 3 months ago- For a conservative, I completely agree with them. Legalization does not mean more people will do something. Look at underage drinking. Completely illegal and done by most. Or smoking. Or back at drugs. Look at how many addicts we throw under the bus to pretend that no DECENT people do drugs.

Sneefer rated 3 months ago- If only there was a mechanism by which to FORCE the politicians to listen to the populace. It's apparent that a majority supports the idea of legalizing at least some drugs - but 'going out and voting' doesn't work. We need some direct accountability to the people in our governments.

treedr00d rated 3 months ago- legalize drugs, people will be excited and take too much and die.. then the world would be less populated! Yay for population control!
