    Debian Rules them all!!

I distro-hop a lot, but I come back to Debian often. Their social contract may be a reason, although other distros have similar rules. The size of the repositories, and the number of third-party repositories available, makes it fun to experiment with different desktop environments and apps. It's easier to turn a Debian desktop into something that's your own than with Ubuntu. Even the name (Deb/Ian) is cool!

Debian is a free operating system (OS) for your computer. An operating system is the set of basic programs and utilities that make your computer run. Debian uses the Linux kernel (the core of an operating system), but most of the basic OS tools come from the GNU project; hence the name GNU/Linux.
