aestheticart discovered 18 months ago- "Four Peacocks" 38" x 38", David Suff. Before anyone gets the idea that I am against colour or that I think it should be avoided altogether, here is a brilliant work by David Suff. What can one say? It is extraordinarily colourful, yet there is absolutely nothing garish or vulgar about this piece for the areas of colour have been perfectly balanced as has the choice of palette. It is often forgotten that in nature every colour is reflected in every other colour. Put simply, a pinkish sunset will tinge the landscape with pink, a grey sky will tinge it with grey, etc. etc. etc. all the way down the line: put a red cloth near you face and it's hue will reflect in your complexion. When painting realistic landscapes this must be taken into account. David Suff obviously does. However the pleasures of this work do not cease here, by no means! This painting is no painting at all - this is actually a drawing! Suff used coloured pencils to produce this work on paper. Now, to get that intensity of colour with coloured pencils is no simple matter. Try it and see.
