A lot of you, including sadly someone I used to respect, are missing the point. Its not about the people being mentally ill. Its that they did this stuff in the name of their religion. Name an atheist who went on a killing spree to cleanse the world of religious people--I dare you.

From the page: Muslims in Pakistan stoned a Christian man to death. His crime? Drinking tea at a roadside stall that was designated for Muslims only. ---------------------- In Maryland, a woman starved her son to death because he wouldn't say Amen. She's expecting him to be resurrected. That hasn't happened so far. Yet another child who would have been much better off with atheist parents. ---------------------------------------------- A pretty sixteen year old girl was stabbed to death by her Muslim brother for listening to rock and roll and wearing makup. He stabbed her 26 times. He was preserving the family honor. And some Christian sects are in for honour killings, too.

I'm on the fence about this article. Sure, it may be true if these were atheist people and families, but then it might not. A lot of these stories involve cases of serious neglect, abuse, or murder; acts that take some seriously messed up and psychologically ill people to perform. No religion advocates these things. The people involve just use their religion as a crutch. This article might as well say "These terrible things wouldn't happen if people weren't crazy."

Atheists also provide sources.

What you get from a loving/hating god......... In Maryland, a woman starved her son to death because he wouldn't say Amen. She's expecting him to be resurrected. That hasn't happened so far. Yet another child who would have been much better off with atheist parents.

Good stories on the depravity of humankind. But I get it, they aren't atheist. The article/list didn't have to say that more than once.

It seems pretty clear that a lot of these people in the cases mentioned here are actually mentally ill. Atheism is great, I wouldn't be anything else, but although schizophrenia/schizotypal thinking may be the ultimate cause of religion, religion is not the cause of psychoses, but just influences their expression.
