- For those that enjoy contemplating the distant future, here's a theory apparently originating with early science-fiction writers, but reconsidered in this write-up by Niall Firth. Although the wording is a little heavy-handed in explaining how economic and genetic pair-bonding will ultimately split the human race into seperate species (i.e. "The human race will one day split into two separate species, an attractive, intelligent ruling elite and an underclass of dim-witted, ugly goblin-like creatures"), it raises an interesting and controversial question, if not largely academic in nature.
In reading this, one should focus on a particular resonating thesis: "Physical features will be driven by indicators of health, youth and fertility that men and women have evolved to look for in potential mates."
This isn't exactly ground-breaking material here. Yet, it's interesting to contemplate how the cultures of our planet have developed particular preferences for certain physical features. Sure, there are differences between cultures, but each seems to develop some sort of popular trend that focuses on certain traits. Do affluent people generally pair-bond within their economic class? Do healthy and physically fit people tend to prefer others who are also physically endowed, or who pay particular attention to exercise and health maintenance?
Whether or not it offends our politically correct sensibilities, these factors are already splitting us into mating pools. This article contemplates the extreme outcome of this trend if it progresses unhindered by other outstanding factors like plague, famine, war, and environmental decay. One thing it doesn't take into consideration is that as the genetic pools become distanced, with less genetic variety, the genetic evolution becomes less adaptive and problems genetic quirks develop.
cwlodarczyk rated 12 months ago- Apparently some people have difficulty telling the difference between science and science-fiction.
billybobgandhi rated 12 months ago- So many theories of what could be and yet nobody gives a damn about right now. All this knowledge and yet how come we can't resolve our basic problems? Is it just me, or are other people noticing that science has brought us so many wonderful innovations and advancements, and yet we are slowly deviating toward a heartless existence? What's with all the arrogance?

leblebi rated 12 months ago- Why is this not filed under humor?
From the page: "Men will have symmetrical facial features, deeper voices and bigger penises, according to Curry in a report commissioned for men's satellite TV channel Bravo.
Women will all have glossy hair, smooth hairless skin, large eyes and pert breasts, according to Curry."

Just hope that this is satire, everyone.

From the page: ""Physical features will be driven by indicators of health, youth and fertility that men and women have evolved to look for in potential mates," says the report, which suggests that advances in cosmetic surgery and other body modifying techniques will effectively homogenise our appearance."

- H.G. Wells already came up with this, and it's the underground goblin-likes ones who were the rulers.. the pretty ones were food.
