It actually looks like her feet are bent too far over as opposed to spun around. That is to say she's walking on the tops of her feet rather than the bottoms -- look at the toes, see how they don't have typical fatty pads that our feet-bottoms have. Her Plantar-fascia would be on top rather than on the bottom. It must have been ridiculously painful to learn to walk on that. Whether she thought much of it as a child or not, surely a brave woman.
