Is it Slovenia or Slovakia? Do you have blacks in Brazil? And this time Australia/Austria and OPEC/APEC.

Bush stumbles into an embarrassing blunder down under.

A very few non-Australians do occasionally confuse the two countries and of course Bush would.

Bush confuses Austria and Australia in latest gaffe. For George Bush, it was a gaffe waiting to happening. The similarities in sounding between Australia and Austria led Bush into an embarrassing blunder down under. The US president thanked Australian premier John Howard for visiting 'Austrian troops' in Iraq. There are no Austrian troops there, although Australia has 1,500 military personnel in the region. He continued his blunders by then confusing the organisations of APEC and OPEC. Talking at a business forum on the eve of an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Sydney, Mr Bush also told Mr Howard: "Mr Prime Minister, thank you for your introduction. Thank you for being such a fine host for the OPEC summit." As the audience laughed, the US president corrected himself and joked: "He invited me to the OPEC summit next year." Australia has never been a member of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.

As I've previously mentioned, could anyone actually still believe that Dubya is running this country? Dubya is what Molly Ivins called Bush Jr. Molly has passed on and many miss her wit. She was one of my favorite columnists, writing for the Austin American Statesman. I read her columns online at The Sacramento Bee. She wrote many great books including "Shrub : The Short but Happy Political Life of George W. Bush" and several others about Bush. All are hilarious, highly entertaining and very enlightening. Just search for her name at any major bookstore From the page: "Bush confuses Austria and Australia in latest gaffe"

Now if he'd just do us all a favor and confuse his toothbrush with his handgun...

How does a president of a world power get away with knowing almost nothing about anything outside of his country, and only slightly more about matters within it? ... Oh yeah, Repubimbos voted for him because of his wonderful ideology of "Let's kill us some towelheads. Now watch this drive."

Only the insane liberal will judge a mix up of words or slip of the tongue (something they surely do a dozen times a day) as an extreme mental deficiency coming from someone they hate

Thanks for the laugh. Well, we all know that Bush is an idiot and probably can't find Austria on a map, but he's done some much worse things that we should not forget about and remain focused on.
