Quizzler rated 4 months ago- Funny cartoon that really makes you think....sure, it's only for a couple of seconds, but most cartoons are IN YOUR FACE telling you what a dope you are if you don't get it in the first mini-second...But I digress...Really wanted to talk about the philosophy class I had in college....The regular Philosophy 1 or 101 or whatever....you know, Philosophy for Dummies...yeah, as if there was such a thing!....was closed and I needed to take it as a General Ed requirement.....so I ended up taking "Existential Philosophy"...OMIGOD...not only did I not understand the main book for the course (Sartre), but I had no clue (absolutely no clue) what the hell the book that explained the Sartre book meant...I could have used a third explanatory book, I guess (although that probably wouldn't have helped either....unless it had lots of nice pictures and E-Z to understand diagrams and was written with crayons)....I thought I B-S'd a lot on other papers in college, but no comparison with the total-absolute crap I set forth on paper for this class....Got all "A's" with remarks on my papers like "You really get it!" or "Best paper on this topic I've seen in years!".....I actually started to feel a bit guilty since I had put no substantiated thought into anything I was writing....I was just guessing...tossing up the Philosophy coin and going with heads or tails or do-overs.....My guilt was assuaged a lot when I found out that my friends who were in Philosophy for Dummies were all getting A's on the really easy stuff (none of which any of them understood...their papers were total-absolute BS, too!)....Just another key part of my liberal arts education....made me wish I had gone to work for Dick's Tool & Die right after high school.

Pyramind rated 4 months ago- Ahh... Good to know.

kish-me rated 4 months ago- Given that the last entry dealt with philosophy and I am trying to move on from the robot wars (but we must stay prepared...) I thought I would add a little philosophy humor (and I do mean little). I am not sure that these people really do get humor. A year ago I spent a day with a room full of academic philosophers at a symposium. Not a rollicking bunch of giggles, that group.
