"Even though they had almost no ability to filter their peers according to common interests (hell, often you were just friends with the guy who happened to live next door), they still came up with more close friends than we have now-people they could trust. It turns out, apparently, that after you get over that first irritation, after you shed your shell of "they listen to different music because they wouldn't understand mine" superiority, there's a sort of comfort in needing other people and being needed on a level beyond common interests. It turns out humans are social animals after all. And that ability to suffer fools, to tolerate annoyance, that's literally the one single thing that allows you to function in a world populated by other people who aren't you." Thanks for the link, Taarzaan.

Why texting is an easy but shitty way to communicate, and other stories.

The article is dead on, and Nedroid's illustrations are always great.

There is about 3 people out of Millions in the 911 truth movement who believe that holograms did it. "Only in that climate could those silly 9/11 conspiracy theories come about (saying the Bush administration and the FDNY blew up the towers, and that the planes were holograms). To hear these people talk, every opposing politician is Hitler, and every election is the freaking apocalypse. All because it keeps you reading."

Excellent and entertaining look at the world we live in and why it is killing us. Slowly.

Right on the money. You know what someone should do? Start opening places in city parks to chat with new people! AND GUESS WHAT WE COULD CALL THEM? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forum_%28Roman%29 P.S. The last line is genius.

Very insightful article. I think a lot of internet junkies, like myself, can identify with the material very easily.

Some of this looks suspiciously like it came straight out of Maddox's writings.

Personally, I try to get away from that isolated lifestyle. I thought this was a descent article; it was thought provoking.
