I'm also mindful of the fact that lyrical, finely written fiction falls flat when it builds toward nothing, relying solely on the sound of its own voice. There is, in fact, a superficiality to this collection, a sense of self-indulgent soliloquy, as well as the impression of a writer at the start of his creative development, someone with talent who needs a difficulty to deepen it.
