wave8media discovered 8 months ago- Interesting atheist vs intelligent design debate info I believe the author is Perry Marshall.

Cowboy77 rated 2 months ago- From the page: "Information Theory and DNA are the strongest argument against Atheism - because the laws of physics and chemistry do not explain the existence of information." This is another good reference to the growing scientific basis for Intelligent Design. With some background in Information Technology, I have long wondered when that aspect would make its way into the debate. We must still be careful not claim Intelligent Design as innately Christian. If true, it proves a Designer and really nothing more. Interesting stuff.

Scientia rated 2 months ago- I am skimming the arguments, but something within me resists getting involved. What I wonder is this: did anyone take the argument and say "yes, DNA is a code, but it's inherent in nature. Perhaps it proves pantheism! The universe is also code. Or, is anyone familiar with neo-Platonic metaphysics embraced by some mathematicians? Or, perhaps the existence of DNA points to theism or polytheism, Allah or Krishna be praised! Christianity does not necessarily follow from this or thermodynamics or other scientific theories. But I haven't read all of this thread yet. Something about this reminded me that there have been strange objects in the sky that have been seen by people, directly or indirectly detected by radar, etc. They are unidentified and maybe unexplained. Most have had explanations, including hoax. A fraction do not have explanations, or no good ones yet. This leads some to declare that this is proof we have been visited by craft built on other worlds. These UFOs can support a variety of other explanations as well. Some UFOs may be waiting for a hypothesis yet to come. Hope springs eternal. "There are unexplained things in the universe, you can't explain it therefore my explanation rules!"

thestevetm rated 3 months ago- Using propositional logic, one can prove that a horse has an infinite number of legs. It doesn't prove any thing other than you can use terms idiosyncratically to 'prove' your presupposition. If you accept that this sort of reasoning substitutes for real intellectually honest pursuit of the truth, then you must also welcome our overly leggy horse over-lords, too.

mototwo78 rated 4 months ago- This person doesn't understand that DNA's code-like characteristic is simply the result of its sterio-chemistry. There are no fairies or gods involved in atomic interaction people. I guess if you're religious and don't understand molecular biology everything has to be magic.

HectorSmarties rated 4 months ago- I'm a Christian, but not a creationist. I agree that DNA is a code, but I can't agree that codes can only be created by an intelligent mind, for the reasons stated by fellow stumbler Birks79. Personally, I believe that the hand of God is somewhere in the Universe's creation itself, by establishing the universe rules that allowed life itself.
Anyway, excellent article, as it provides food for thought! ;)- I'm a Christian, but not a creationist. I agree that DNA is a code, but I can't agree that codes can only be created by an intelligent mind, for the reasons stated by fellow stumbler Birks79. Personally, I believe that the hand of God is somewhere in the Universe's creation itself, by establishing the universe rules that allowed life itself.

Birks79 rated 5 months ago- Random mutation coupled with natural selection (where successful mutations are rewarded and unsuccessful ones die out) would inevitably produce more and more complex life forms (ie codes). This seems rather obvious and the author's verbal gymnastics and quasi-scientific sounding arguments do nothing to refute that. Like others have said, the author is not arriving at a conclusion after studying and using reason, he has a conclusion in mind that he is trying to find a theory for.

bartman330 rated 7 months ago- Cool stuff.

Tiglath-Pileser rated 7 months ago- Good postulation on the origin of life. It's fun to see some of the Stumblers here try (and fail miserably) to counter his position.

b74d3 rated 8 months ago- Yes DNA, a code was made by a mind, our minds. Did God invent English? and Spanish? And Hebrew too??? You can't prove religion with science it just doesn't work.

Ravenkeep rated 8 months ago- I'm not interested in any views on Atheism.
