It does feel a little made-up. But there are some good teachers out there who push their students not to accept what's told to them. Everyone should have a teacher at some point like that.

A fantastic story about a teacher's ability to undermine his student's trust in him (and, indeed, all teachers) and turn them into denialists (this is NOT about skepticism). A heartwarming abuse of authority. A self-congratulatory tale made to make those who disagreed with authority figures at some point in their life feel like intrepid pioneers instead of arrogant bastards.
