Oh, the double standard of language. What we really need is for all men to show some balls and join together in brotherhood against sexism. :) From the page: "He's the boss, she's a bitch. He's independent, she's pathetic. He's childless, she's selfish.... more

So, then, ought it be "He's a slut, she's a slut?" Or "He's a stud, she's a stud?" Or whatever the hell the word would be. I'll tell you: I'm every bit as offput by "If you got it, flaunt it" Oprah-watchers who call themselves feminists and refer to men and women alike as "hot pieces of real estate"--as I am by stupid jock frat-guy types who want to sleep with as many women as possible--as I am by sex-hating religious types who want to feel superior to the opposite sex or to those who can't abstain--as I am by one-sided commentators who feel the problem is "no more real men" or "conservatives...threatened by independent women." There isn't one standard for how each person WANTS to be treated. There isn't one standard for how each person NEEDS to be treated. There isn't one standard for how each person DESERVES to be treated. STOP LUMPING ALL MEN AND ALL WOMEN TOGETHER, please.

Feminism = Manhating, truth distorting insanity. How's that for language?

An interesting read - The double-standard use of language creates an offensive and derogatory arena for all women; unfortunately, certain segments of the media help perpetuate this. Not only do we have to change our ways of thinking, but our ways of seeing and SPEAKing.

Those double standards anger me intensely.

From the page: "The conservative movement and the backlash against feminism have been extremely successful and smart in labelling feminism with all these ridiculous stereotypes that really serve a specific and strategic purpose. If young women believe that feminism is for man-haters, is uncool, is ugly, then why would they ever want to identify with it?"

He's independent, she's pathetic. He's childless, she's selfish. He's a Romeo, she's a stalker. He's angry, she's PMSing. 'I call it "I'm-not-a-feminist-but" syndrome,' explains Valenti. I'm not a feminist but I think that women should have access to birth control without having problems at their pharmacies."'
