The reviewer had never tried Stumbling yet he is convinced it is some information harvesting thing.

Interesting discussion - didn't we all wonder in the beginning - before we really stumbled into this fascinating new way of "surfing" the web?

I did not find this by Stumbling, as others have also commented, but I think Calgal's review is spot on - Geoff defended the community very well here, and if that person couldn't understand what he was on about with the dissident remark, well ... tough - bet they (the dissidents) would! Interesting dialogue.

This guy is the worst software critic I've ever seen. "I haven't downloaded it [stumbleupon] to try it out yet myself" Oh, thank you Mr. Expert for your great insight to a program you haven't even tried!

It's so funny to read the comments. What were those idiots thinking?

From the page: " A trio of Canadian programmers has created a new, social way to surf the web -- StumbleUpon. It's a little application that recommends interesting sites for you to visit, based on the votes of other StumbleUpon users. I haven't downloaded it to try it out yet myself, but it sounds a bit like the Alexa toolbar, which collaboratively filters people's recommendations in a similar way (or at least, that's how Alexa used to work that last time I used it; not sure if it still does.)"

Sadly, Alexa has spoiled things for people... People nowadays hear "Toolbar" and think "Spyware"... and then you tell people about SU and the first words out of their mouths are "Like Alexa?"... so it's no wonder they thought Google... Google bought Alexa.... I've been using Firefox and Stumbleupon for a year and a half, on two different computers and never had a single problem with it... I haven't noticed a marked increase in the amount of spam in my email box, nor have I noticed any correlation to the sites i've visited.. This page is old, outdated, and misinformed...
