Everyday, I hate the country I live in more and more. What has to happen before there is change? If we keep ignoring the billions of little signs, its gonna take a house falling out of the sky to wake us up....if we survive it.

From the page: "The Pentagon Tuesday made public a now-defunct legal memo that approved the use of harsh interrogation techniques against terror suspects, saying President Bush's wartime authority trumps any international ban on torture." -- The Bush administration has always maintained that they are above the rule of law, this is yet another piece of evidence (as if we needed any more).

From the page: "Our previous opinions make clear that customary international law is not federal law and that the president is free to override it at his discretion," said the memo written by John Yoo" Thats true, The US, like any other sovereign state is not directly subject to int'l law. But as soon as you do violate int'l law, all bets are off, other nations have no reason to trust us or feel obligated to conform to a law we've broken. So really this doesn't just get the US off the hook for torture, it gets everyone off the hook. Still, I'm glad to live in a country where there is at least enough transparency to have had this memo made public
