- Yeah, let's look at both sides of rude, threatening and stupid behavior. Do you find that behavior a compliment?
And there are men who "take it personally" if a woman reacts badly to being catcalled. Ummm . . . do they take it personally enough to stop acting like jackasses? - Yeah, let's look at both sides of rude, threatening and stupid behavior. Do you find that behavior a compliment?

MrLugubrious rated 2 months ago- Hey, assholes who scream stuff at women in the street! Most people don't like being yelled at by strangers considering that stories like this http://www.wftv.com/news/11315838/detail.html make it pretty clear that catcalling is often more about putting women in their place than flattering them. To quote one of the commenters: "Here's a clue - if most women think catcalls are threatening, and you continue to catcall (or make excuses for other guys who catcall), then you are not trying to compliment women."

M-Nome rated 2 months ago- What an awful cycle. First, tell women that being objectified is good. Then, tell men that it is ok or even good to objectify. Then, men do their catcalls. Women feel flattered because thats what they've been told to feel. Then they feel more like they need the catcalls to have any confidence. And it just gets worse and worse. If women would stand up to this behavior, it would decline. But it isn't going to anytime soon because too many women feel all of their being is their body.

DannyAndNina rated 2 months ago- As part of her research, Kearl conducted an anonymous, informal e-mail survey of 225 women on the subject. She found that 98 percent of respondents experienced some form of street harassment at least a few times, and about 30 percent reported being harassed on a regular basis.
"For me, anyone who interrupts my personal space to objectify me or make me feel uncomfortable or threatened is harassing me," she says.

elegantlyiam rated 2 months ago- I find the whole catcalling thing really annoying.

- I like how every single woman quoted in the article says catcalling is annoying or scary or abusive or wrong, but then they throw in a line about how some women "are flattered by it" and make the title "Creepy or Complimentary?" Well, it would seem women have come out pretty squarely on the side of creepy. Do we really need to ask about the "complimentary" shit?

- You know, I hate how they tried to take a "let's hear both sides of it" approach to the story. You don't harass women on the street--it's just that simple.

Redikolous rated 2 months ago- I've been stared at, but never catcalled. The staring is creepy, though.
