- If you never have, and like short stories, read a few from Edgar Allan Poe. Sinister and dark or filled to the brim with terrors or exquisitely frightful, like they should. I suggest: "The Pit and the Pendulum", "The Masque of the Red Death" and "The Descent Into the Maelstrom".

- Writing a good short story is quite challenging but when done well the reader will inevitably be sent into a small world of intense involvement.
