Self explanatory.

From the page: "So which country has the most laws regulating its citizenry? After looking high and low I discovered that the country with the most lawsâ€"not just today, but in all of history is...geez Louise, itâ€s the United States. We not only have the most laws in all of history, but we also turn out more new laws and regulations to manage our people every single year than most countries turn out in decades." One citizen's view of the paradox of living in the freest society on the planet, than also happens to have some of the most regulations to infringe upon those freedoms.

Two really, really stupid ways of measuring 'freedom'. Number of people in jail in no way measures freedom, and neither does total number of laws. Is this saying that the US is less free than the PRC where everything is censored? Less free than the Soviet Union where writing something like this would get you in a place much worse than jail? Less free than North Korea where this would land you torture? These statistics are in no way a measurement of 'freedom'.

You are an idiot, we ARE one of the most free developed countries on earth, just because you aren't happy with the current state of our government doesn't mean we aren't free, anyway this sounds like it was written by a high-schooler, so I don't really care to debate it.

On the two quantitative measures chosen, the US is indeed the least free. But rather than admit as such, and attempt to do something about it, a few stumblers denied the charges, whilst half a million people waste away in jail for having fun with a plant.

The fact that you were able to write this and post it proves you wrong.

An interesting article, but the author misses a crucial point. Government is created by the populace as a way to ensure the common good. Law is the tool that government uses towards that end. A lawless nation is one that quickly falls into dog-eat-dog oppression by fear. As I stated in a recent review and as the author almost illustrates - the rule of law actually gives us MORE freedom instead of restricting it.

The greater the institutional protection for freedom, the more laws abrogating those freedoms are needed. Lawyers love exceptions. They generate business.

To determine if the US is really the "Least free" nation the writer should try a similar expose in other nations, perhaps the USSR a few decades ago (He would have become an un-person), maybe the PRC now (He would be shot) or North Korea (tortured).

If that were near true, you wouldn't have been able to read it.
