Syncopate discovered 15 months ago- *****...Reginald Robinson is an amazing talent. I had the fortune to hear him play and speak to him in 2001...years before he won the MacArthur 'Genius' Award...years when he was barely earning enough to keep himself housed. There is a documentary of him that is viewable online (a link from the page). The music that so captured his heart did likewise, decades ago, to my own. ~From the page: "It's standing-room-only on a late February afternoon at tony Occidental College in Los Angeles, where some 200 students are about to learn that genius can come in unexpected forms. The guest lecturer is from the very un-tony West Side of Chicago. He seats himself at the piano, gently places his fingers on the keyboard and proceeds to reel off ragtime tunes of astonishing complexity.
