From the page: "What could be hazardous about a helium-filled party balloon, you ask? After all, balloons are supposed to be fun, right? The answer may surprise you."

The reason for this warning is the rate of flow and resulting pressure in the lungs when using commercial helium canisters. That is, there are some people stupid enough to clamp their mouth around the tip valve on a pressurised canister and rupture their lungs within a fraction of a second.

I almost never give a thumbs-down. This writing is...well...this guy can't write. In his profession he should know how to write clearly, sequentially, just better. At least half of these words could be cut, maybe 75%.

do you feel lucky enough to go from balloon to balloon?

Josher, you obviously didn't read the article. The reason for this warning is the rate of flow and resulting pressure in the lungs when using commercial helium canisters. That is, there are some people stupid enough to clamp their mouth around the tip valve on a pressurised canister and rupture their lungs within a fraction of a second. Read before you start making what you think are educated statements.

this is flat out BULLSHIT. Helium is an inert gas. What this means is it reacts with nothing under normal earth conditions. Breathing helium is about as dangerous as breathing air from another persons mouth. The only time this may be fatal is if you were in an air-tight box with helium only in it. Don't believe everything you read folks.

From the page: "Most people simply do not have the information available to help them understand hazards associated with inhaling helium. Several years ago, I was asked to investigate the death of a teenager who died while inhaling helium from a balloon-filling system. During this investigation, I discovered the true nature of these severe - and potentially fatal - hazards. The discussion here is intended to help readers make informed decisions that will prevent future loss of life ."
