sargt000 discovered 10 months ago- i was watching part of this tonight while stretching out my 2398423 billion cramps from my first running group (oh fuck i'm going to die. but i'm determined.) it was really sad, how a shy but otherwise normal guy went nuts and shot students at dawson college in montreal. what i found most interesting (but not surprising) was how when he became introverted, he turned to the internet for friends. how he became this other "online person" who was tough and somewhat dangerous but the real life kimveer was very vulnerable and lonely. you see that happen on EVERY social networking sites (not just goth/vampire ones). it happens here. but what got my attention most was not how people he was trying to befriend found him so creepy (big surprise)but how they would call him out for being a creep. this happens all the time on SU. and while i think many of these (mostly women) people who call these guys out on SU are totally justified - we deserve to be able to be in the internet universe and not be harassed by pervy douchebags - and most of these stellar people i'm happy to have in my mutual friend list, it can sometimes go too far. in this guys case, it helped pushed him over the edge to terrorize a school and kill an innocent person. so, i guess as much as it's entertaining sometimes to call these guys out, sometimes i guess we just should maybe not be too harsh. it's not in my nature to be mean - well, most of the time. i don't like hurting anyone's feelings (but i will sometimes laugh and point if they're not looking). often we forget that the person on the end of the internet has feelings too. sometimes i still feel a bit bad about big stan. ok, not really. but i probably should. just a little. but only a tiny, tiny, tiny bit. tiny.
