Statistics show that ECT is used most often to subdue aggressive people who are physically large and strong, and who are deemed to be potentially threatening to law enforcement and to "social order". As a tool to "fight depression" however, its value is extremely limited. That's just a whitewash by the shrinks who favour using it as a shortcut (just as the taser is used as an easy shortcut for peace officers).
