sargt000 discovered 4 months ago- this story broke my heart. why? because a guy was murdered? partly. but mostly because i went to school with his daughter. i worked for his wife. as a kid, i delivered newspapers for him. yeah - he was homeless. he was also once a successful business man who started up many small town newspapers but was plagued by severe mental illness and alcoholism. yeah i get annoyed by the homeless too, especially the crazy, twitchy fuckers who hang out in doorways and scare the bejezus out of you when you try to walk down the street (downtown vancouver is especially irritating). i joke when i drive down east hastings that it's like homeless frogger - they're all so fucked up they just wander across 4-5 lanes of traffic not paying attention at all and you constantly have to be on your toes. but when you're kicking the shit out of a homeless guy so hard you send him flying a meter and make him so unrecognizable that he has to be identified through his clothing and dental records, you're one sick motherfucker. he was someone's dad. this is a hate crime. life in prison.
