We live in a consumer based society and therefore those who "produce" (provide goods and services for the consumer) are going to be rewarded the most. Ideas unto themselves while necessary and beneficial in an abstract sense rarely provide the means to satisfy day to day needs of the consumer (society) at large.

I'd like to see a citation of sources that verify the views of so-called "intellectuals." This author seems to stand on a firm logical basis for his conclusions, but without an analysis of statistics, it seems to be purely speculation.

Intellectuals oppose capitalism because it erodes their power base and often renders them irrelevant. The blogosphere and social networking are a good example of this. Yet, it is these same alleged "intellectuals" who insist that they have the last say in the classroom, the boardroom, as well as the newsroom. Behold, a new age, there is a power vacuum and it is rapidly being filled.
