- Well that's not going to be too much of a problem. I already have a partner and she is the one who owns the cat too. But still, its a good thing to stumble. Who knows when you might need that.

Nevertheless, it is not advisable for a new partner to attempt any physical interaction, such as stroking or picking up the cat. This could be seen as both threatening and an invasion of the cat's body space. In addition, there could also be a perceived competitive aspect between the combinations male cat/female partner.
