I've previously heard that Japanese workers, where overtime is a much bigger part of the culture, are actually less productive than North American counter-parts who work for regular hours, mostly due to the effects of burnout. Though here's a list of more reasons to stay within the 40 hour mark.
  1. Lost Opportunity Costs in Professional Growth
  2. Increased Professional Risk from Lack of Diversification
  3. Decreased Professional Passion
  4. Lost Productivity
  5. Poor Code Quality
  6. Lost Personal Revenue
  7. The Usual Personal Reasons
