Any critics like this one only prove that it is not the case stated. However, let's not forget that fascism is but a for of totalitarianism, which is the form of political organization where an exercise like this would not be possible. Anyway, it's always there, lurking in the dark as a possibility. I do not think the USA be a totalitarian state, but I wouldn't risk saying it could not become one. Readings suggested: Hannah Arendt; "The Origins of Totalitarism".
