This page is very effective- if you want people to use less electricity, show how simple it is and more importantly, how much money they will save.

As part of my never-ending quest to get flamed as much as possible, I'm going to be a typical libertarian and suggest that we can use as much energy as we can personally afford. If we start running out of resources, they'll become prohibitively expensive, and a lot of us will need to do things like this to cut back. But for the meantime it's optional. Of course it's awfully nice of you to voluntarily conserve energy if you want - using less of the energy supply keeps my utility bill down too! Now if you'll excuse me, it's awfully warm in here so I'm gonna go leave the freezer door open.
