The modern conditions of the 21st century urban environment is complete over-stimulation. Constant sensory bombardments from noise pollution to the internet's informational gluttony have cumulated into sweeping new trends of sleeplessness, over-worry,panic attacks, anxiety, paranoia and depression within broad groups of those of the now 50% of the globe who live in cities. The meditative aspects of Buddhism, we have been shown, actually allow the individual meditating to gain control of his/her brain's Limbic System. These nerves imbedded deep inside the cortex control a person's heart rate, blood pressure, digestive functioning and other base functions. Yogi's meditating under scientific observation have shown these practices to in only minutes lower one's heart rate and blood pressure. High blood pressure and heart rates are endemic problems in the Christian practicing nations like the North America and throughout Western Europe. Thus, a religion able to ameliorate these ailments - like Buddhism has proven it can and does - would logically garner significant demand and therefore interest from the wide range of young and older Christian individual's seeking out alternative to increasingly high prescription-drug and other health-care costs. So, while it may appear that the "western obsession" is inane, or even at face value that Buddhism holds no more "logic than Christianity." I would argue observing the differences of these practices at a fundamentally psysiological level highlights how logical the western obsession with Buddhism truly is, and that its practices will only continue to gain saliency as our environmental attacks become stronger with time. similar to the mental and physical calmness generated from practicing yoga

jayedreamer rated 8 days ago- "Listen to the sound of one hand clapping Grasshopper"... written with Zen sparseness and clarity that only comes from being truly grounded and centered this site give one a beautiful overview of Buddism without the usual mysticism and silly faldarall of most new age/crystal hugger sites.
