tokorosa rated 2 months ago- A man who can speak truth to power--and face up to the consequences--is a rare man. "The authentic human being is one of us who instinctively knows what he should not do, and, in addition, he will balk at doing it. He will refuse to do it, even if this brings down dread consequences to him and to those whom he loves. This, to me, is the ultimately heroic trait of ordinary people; they say no to the tyrant and they calmly take the consequences of this resistance. Their deeds may be small, and almost always unnoticed, unmarked by history. Their names are not remembered, nor did these authentic humans expect their names to be remembered. I see their authenticity in an odd way: not in their willingness to perform great heroic deeds but in their quiet refusals. In essence, they cannot be compelled to be what they are not." --Philip K. Dick

- Enjoy Leavenworth. Much as I oppose this war, you signed the papers, knowing full well the war was bullshit-you don't get to whine now.

mxe806j02 rated 2 months ago- From the page: "On Thursday, he refused to go, saying he considers Iraq an illegal war. "I stand before you today with the strength and clarity and resolve to declare to the military, my government and the world that this soldier will not be deploying to Iraq," Chiroux said in the sun-filled rotunda of a congressional building in Washington. "My decision is based on my desire to no longer continue violating my core values to support an illegal and unconstitutional occupation... I refuse to participate in the Iraq occupation," he said, as a dozen veterans of the five-year-old Iraq war looked on. " I salute this true American hero who is willing to stand up to Neo-con warmongers who give illegal orders.

grimmjack66 rated 2 months ago- Any one who lies, cheats and steals is automatically a "hero" of the self-loathing, US haters on the left.
It's amazing that the media assumes that its customers are stupid enough not to think that what this loser is doing is illegal, really illegal, not the phony "illegal" this moron is claiming, and his lefty, anti-war accomplices are trying to capitalize on.
There is no draft and the Military is all volunteer. The enlistment contract is written at a third grade level and the Military has to follow the contract to the letter, as does the person who signs it. It's telling that he has been in the military for almost as long as the Iraq war has been going on, and he is only now letting everyone down.
Because he is such a cop-out, his unit is deploying under-manned, he is hanging the soldiers that counted on him for training and guidance as an NCO out to dry.
This selfish asshole took an oath when he enlisted and then again when he was promoted to the NCO ranks. That means he lied twice.

cromagnum55 rated 2 months ago- American hero soldier stands up to George Bush and the rest of the war criminals.

misstake rated 2 months ago- From the page: "Chiroux joined the US army straight out of high school nearly six years ago, and worked his way up from private to sergeant. He served in Afghanistan, Germany, Japan, and the Philippines and was due to be deployed next month in Iraq. On Thursday, he refused to go, saying he considers Iraq an illegal war."
This is not some kid who signed up for the free education and expected to never be deployed. Sgt. Chiroux has served actively for six years (at his age, that's a quarter of his life) and is just as courageous as any other soldier-- perhaps more so because he is willing to think for himself. The military does not encourage free-thinkers, and is perhaps not suited for such, but this young man is not afraid to go to Iraq; he is taking an important stand that, I hope, will ease his conscience and allow him to serve loyally.
That in Iraq we are fighting an unconstitutional war is no longer a far-left opinion. 65% of Americans believe that going into Iraq was the wrong thing to do, not worth going to war over, and not morally justified. Many constitutional scholars say that the Iraq war resolution was not an appropriate substitute for a Declaration of War, and so the war continues to violate the Constitution.- From the page: "Chiroux joined the US army straight out of high school nearly six years ago, and worked his way up from private to sergeant. He served in Afghanistan, Germany, Japan, and the Philippines and was due to be deployed next month in Iraq. On Thursday, he refused to go, saying he considers Iraq an illegal war."

TyromeBling rated 2 months ago- Seriously is this guy sporting a mullet? Guilty as charged. A 'real' soldier would shave his head or at least have a better haircut.

SeaGriz rated 2 months ago- This whole scenario sounds very familiar. When I was in the Army Reserves, I was in a medical unit. Well, when we were activated and sent to the UAE, there were so many "soldiers" that couldn't believe they were actually activated. Oh no! I have to actually fulfill what I swore to do? I suppose that is why we lost a good 35% to leaving the Reserves when we got back - they didn't like actually having to fulfill their obligations. Did I mention I was in the Reserves and was sent 1500 miles away from any sort of action? Shit, this guy is just the same. He needs to grab his sack and quit being a tool for the far left. I can accept criticism from those that aren't in the military, but not those that took the oath. By the way, does anyone remember what the last tool of the far lefts name is? Cindy Sheehan. What is she doing now? She is going to run against Pelosi because the left used her as political fodder and then discarded her. This guy is a pussy.

rationale rated 2 months ago- Here is an article about the hero who refuses to support U.S. government terrorism (video in post below): "Matthis Chiroux is the kind of young American US military recruiters love. "I was from a poor, white family from the south, and I did badly in school," the now 24-year-old told AFP. "I was 'filet mignon' for recruiters. They started phoning me when I was in 10th grade," or around 16 years old, he added. Chiroux joined the US army straight out of high school nearly six years ago, and worked his way up from private to sergeant. He served in Afghanistan, Germany, Japan, and the Philippines and was due to be deployed next month in Iraq. On Thursday, he refused to go, saying he considers Iraq an illegal war. "I stand before you today with the strength and clarity and resolve to declare to the military, my government and the world that this soldier will not be deploying to Iraq," Chiroux said in the sun-filled rotunda of a congressional building in Washington.
