From the page: "Have you ever arrived somewhere and wondered how you got there? Scientists at the University of Leeds believe they may have found the answer, with research that shows that humans flock like sheep and birds, subconsciously following a minority of individuals. "

This is nothing new except for the explanation. I've always found you can get away with almost anything if you look as though you know what you're doing. Now I know why.

Connie Willis' wonderful short novel Belwether discussed at length the search for those of us who set trends. A study at the University of Leeds shows that these belwethers exist in human society in all situations, and that 95% of us wind up following their lead without even realizing we are doing it.

The reason for the sad state of affairs, that we are experiencing. From the page: "research that shows that humans flock like sheep and birds, subconsciously following a minority of individuals. Results from a study at the University of Leeds show that it takes a minority of just five per cent to influence a crowd's direction â€" and that the other 95 per cent follow without realising it."

They ended up following someone because 1.) they had no where to go and 2.) they were asked to stay within arms length of another person. I don't think thats a realistic situation.
