This is powerful, considering I live in Pittsburgh and this will be happening all around me next week.

Photo essay from the front lines of the 2009 G20 protest. Lots of big, emotive and in-your-face pics.

Why does the breaking of the Bank of England window look to be a performance by and for the media? Look at the photo. Other than the person throwing the computer screen the rest of the crowd look to be professional news photographers. The news media is about 8 deep in a semi-circle. Beyond that is nobody. If this was an impromptu, random act during the protest why is everyone there look to be professionals except for the hooligan throwing the screen?

From the page: "Thousands of protesters gathered in London, England on April 1st and 2nd to demonstrate against an array of issues, largely anti-capitalist or pro-environmental in nature. A large underlying theme was anger with the effects of the economic downturn and a call for accountability and responsibility. While the majority of protesters were peaceful, a number of them took to smashing windows and throwing debris at police lines. London police responded with baton charges and arrests. Similar protests are now taking place in Strasbourg, France, which hosts a NATO summit today. (36 photos total)"

I'm all for protesting and making your voice heard. But why the destruction, the blood and the violence? Why can't we look to non-violent protestors? Ghandi is a name known all over the world, and he was the most peaceful protestor.

Without a doubt, the citizens of most western nations have been too DAMN docile for too long and our governments have taken this as a large window of opportunity to rape us. Bravo to the Brits for showing quite a measure of the spirit of rebellion against bad government!
