 Gatochy rated 19 months ago- "August 2006, the yacht 'Maiken' is travelling in the south Pacific when they came across a weird sight... It was sand in the water, and floating ON TOP of the waves... This is not a beach, it is volcanic stones floating on the water. And then this was spotted... ash and steam rising ...

- cool but misleading. The island would have taken longer than that to form. They just got closer to an already existing island.

- See 19 photos of a discovery made by people on the yacht Maiken, August 2006, while in South Pacific waters.
First, they came upon what looked like a beach, in the middle of the ocean ... sand ... which turned out to be floating volcanic matter. As they were marveling over this, they turned and saw the formation of a new island.
I wonder if they could name it and lay claim to it.
