- His "fingers crossed" signal is the one used to indicate that one is being coerced into doing something one doesn't want to do. Unfortunately, the secret signal isn't such a secret any longer since this pic has been bandied about the internet for the past few years. He's not mocking her with the sign, he's just being stupid for doing it in this situation. Were he a POW or in some other way being held by enemy forces and made to do or say things, then that would be completely appropriate.
