  • Blackle - Energy Saving Search

Interesting concept. Apparently, dark pages save more energy... time to switch my profile colour scheme. In the meanwhile the predominately black version of Google search engine saves energy. .. Does this apply to LCD screens too? EDIT: This DOES NOT apply to LCD monitors, especially... more

Whatever about the energy thing. I like the black; it's more attractive, but I don't like that I won't get to see Google's custom logos on holidays and such! Just for that I won't be using it.

Google needs a dark alternative. In fact, while we're at it, so don't these review pages.

Save Energy, it will help. even a small saving by large no. of people will add up. Even in LCD monitor difference on long time scale will help.

Considering most people use LCD screens now, this is incredibly stupid. Here's the other thing, a CRT uses about 90 watts, my LCD screen uses 35. I say make those CRT users switch to LCDs if people are really that worried about power usage.

Majority of people use LCD monitors now, and energy savings from black background on them are negligible (if there even are any). Creators of Blackle probably use up much more energy by running their own server to host the page than is saved by the black background. In short, this is a dumb idea. Or maybe I should say smart? They are making money from AdSense clicks inside the search after all. Just use Firefox or IE7/8 built-in search, and you won't even have to go to the page.
