Episcoveg discovered 6 months ago- I have heard similar things about what goes into commercial pet food, but it hadn't occurred to me that the same ingredients could be fed to the (vegetarian) animals that are raised for the consumption of their flesh. It also offers a good reason to raise "veganic" produce, instead of using animal-derived "organic" fertilizers. I have questioned how organic a fertilizer something like cow manure is, when cows are fed growth hormones and antibiotics. This article makes manure and other animal-based fertilizers seem even less organic than I imagined.
