Today on 'Humph Sunday'some great programmes including this one with an excellent choice of music and speech from the much-missed Humph: From the page: "another chance to hear Humphrey Lyttelton's Desert Island Discs. The programme was recorded in October 2006 and, because of Humphrey's touring schedule, we had to carry out the interview at a different time and, hence, different studio to the one we usually use. Humphrey was a tall man and our studio was tiny. As he walked in he dead-panned that we needn't have taken out the chandelier on his account and, during the interview, his and Kirsty's knees bumped together under the desk. He talked with great fondness of the innuendo and mayhem he presided over on I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue, but it was clear that his first love had always been jazz. As a child he'd been fascinated by music and when he was a teenager Louis Armstrong had inspired him to take up the trumpet. Humphrey was 85 when we recorded this programme and he said that he still found he was kept awake at night, composing new pieces of music he could play with his band. 1.Colonel Bogey Performer The Band of the H.M. I love this programme - Ricky Gervais (creator of The Office and Extras), is on at the moment. Catch it here, see his selection, and have a look at previous guests in the archive.
