From the page: "The Elements of Style William Strunk, Jr. Asserting that one must first know the rules to break them, this classic reference book is a must-have for any student and conscientious writer. Intended for use in which the practice of composition is combined with the study of literature, it gives in brief space the principal requirements of plain English style and concentrates attention on the rules of usage and principles of composition most commonly violated."

This is a general purpose short book that can be assimilated easily. Its conciseness also helps with it. Nevertheless, it is a short book; depending on the purpose of writing, one may need a more complete reference. For example, `The Craft of Research' is excellent for people who publish research findings, and covers much more than this little book.

This is the online version of the famous The Elements of Style (1918). Short and to the point, it makes for a quick read and easy reference for new writers. Writing is different from speaking; it's much harder. I will be going through this very carefully before I even attempt to publish something.
