A simple piece of free (as in beer) software that does exactly what it is supposed to do. Converts CD tracks directly to MP3 or Ogg (and a lot more). I just saw it read and extract clean audio from a CD that Windows Media Player rejected as too damaged to play. Windows Media Player sends... more

This looks like a good way to keep your music available to you on your computer or ipod.

From the page: "Audiograbber is a beautiful piece of software that grabs digital audio from cd's. It copies the audio digitally-not through the soundcard-which enables you to make perfect copies of the originals. It can even perform a test to see that the copies really are perfect. Audiograbber can also automatically normalize the music, delete silence from the start and/or end of tracks, and send them to a variety or external MP3 encoders, such as Fraunhofers L3enc, or even use some MP3/WMA encoders internally for automatic creation of MP3's. Audiograbber can download and upload disc info from freedb, an Internet compact disc database. You can even record your vinyl LP's or cassette tapes with Audiograbber and make wav's or MP3's of them. There are a lot more functions in Audiograbber, but to put it simply: Audiograbber has the most features one can wish from such a program! "

FTW, esp when used with LAME and other .dll files.

This has been around for years, but really if you are going to use it don't bother with the built in codec, it's rubbish. Download LAME and install that into audiograbber folder and it will let you use LAME instead, much better quality. To those that think WMP is better, remember everything it emcodes as WMA includes a unique ID that can ID your computer if you ever file share. MP3 may be bigger but at least its snooper free.

Well, everybody else seems to know about this, but it is a new one on me. Think I will give it a whirl. Sounds like it will solve some problems I have been having. Will let you know.

A simple piece of free (as in beer) software that does exactly what it is supposed to do. Converts CD tracks directly to MP3 or Ogg (and a lot more). I just saw it read and extract clean audio from a CD that Windows Media Player rejected as too damaged to play. Windows Media Player sends data to 3rd parties every time you use it to play an MP3. QuickTime steals file associations, blocking (for instance) U.S. Patent Office TIFF files. Real Player is really bloated. The free K-Lite Mega Codec Pack includes Media Player Classic, Real Alternative, Quick Time Alternative, and more. Multimedia problems? Solved. Nonags is the largest collection of free software on [ nonags.com ] Nonags and Sourceforge.net are always the first places to look, when you need a new tool. No payware, nagware, adware, or spyware. Don't pay for inferior software - most of the best tools are free. Firefox: 20% of the visitors to this page still use Internet Explorer. That's easy to fix. Thunderbird:The best e-mail program for Windows. High security, spam filtering & more. Filezilla is one of the best all-around FTP programs. HTTrack website copier downloads entire websites, quickly and efficiently. AM-Deadlink is an excellent tool for cleaning up bookmarks files. Open Office is a complete and superior replacement for the Microsoft Office suite. Note Tab Light is a plain text editor with powerful features including HTML & CSS tools. Lupas Rename enables you to rename files in bulk. GIMP completely replaces Photoshop. Install in this order: GTK+, GIMP, GIMP 2 Help. Irfanview is the best image file manager. Way too many cool features to list here. Inkscape is an SVG editor, replaces PSP & Corel. Made this with Chaoscope Chaoscope: See, tweak, & render 3D fractals. Audacity is an excellent audio editor. AVG AntiVirus: Smaller, faster, more reliable than Norton/Symantec. Kerio Personal Firewall: Small, fast, and powerful. "Limited" version is better than "full" version! Uninstall other AV & firewall software & reboot, before installing AVG & Kerio. Process Explorer & Autoruns give you real control of your PC. Eraser: Emptying your recycle bin does not remove deleted files from your drive. Erasing them does. AdAware finds and removes spyware. IE users also need S S & D, to block realtime attacks. PGP: Professional strength crypto for e-mail & data security.
