- It is indeed a more stomachable view point for an atheist; and his viewpoint does negate some of the damaging aspects of religiosity, such as hell and absolute truths. However, he still keeps religious thought in so far as to say that his traditions point to God and with only the evidence of existence; he can assume (guess) the existence of heaven where our consciousness/spirit will continue. Where does he get that from? His beliefs are a supplement to conventional Christian beliefs and are only moderately less absurd. From evidence, we know (more or less) that consciousness is produced by neurons in the brain and conscious activity is lost with brain death; and we so far have been unsuccessful in detecting a soul or spirit, nor indeed heaven. Even though what we know could be an illusion, we have little choice but to take what we observe as cautious fact and deduce that we cease to exist in the same form in death that we exist now in life, so ending our brief pseudo-separation from nature. No nostalgia is held for the atoms that composed us. The stranglets of energy that we held on to now, are then shared by the universe. As is almost certain on earth, they become the stuff of life again. Amen.
