i'm thinking that it will be a short time of decline but as it starts having to compete in a more level playing field it will start to grow again at the same rate as the rest of the market.

- I think he's right. Microsoft isn't likely to disappear in the next few days, but at some point it's gonna fail. Dell has only recently been offering Ubuntu on it's machines. Before that your only options really were windows or mac. Now that there's more competitors, Microsoft is basically guaranteed to lose it's monopoly at some point. You can tell I've just done a GCSE in Economics can't you :D

- Haven't people predicted the 'doom' of Microsoft since the beginning? I realize it is all the rage to hate Microsoft and love all things Mac or *nix, but this gets really old after several decades. All you Mac lovers, head to the coffee shops and draw something pretty. And for you *nix lovers, come out of your mother's basement for a while and realize that with all your 'flavors' you still have a minimal market share.

- Truth is most people don't even know that computers don't have to run Windows. Those who do know, wouldn't want to run anything other than Windows.
Only people with technical minds (not many people) even know what linux is.

- the company is much to big and has way to many resources to just flop over. some renewed focus and one or two new apps will make everyone forget their current problems
