This brings back memories, pity it won't fit in my pocket, though.

This is really amazing. Someone spent hours of work doing this. Fabulous rendition, but I have to confess that I'm not sure why. I have a neat little utility that does all of this without need of explanation. Cool though.

Tried some simple calculations from instructions found elsewhere. Quite elegant in it's design and implementation. I wish I had been given the opportunity to use these, I think I would have been better at math for it (vs. the mindless plug and chug of calculators).

I can honestly say that I have no fucking clue how to use one of these, and judging by all the marks and numbers, have no desire to.

Fun memories. Bought my slide rule at a pawn shop near the university. Cost 25USD, big money for a student in 1965. Needed one for the electronics courses.

This needs an instruction page for the calculator generation and for those who barely or never learned how to use it. Otherwise, a very realistic rendition of the slide rule which was the ultimate calculator for everything!

I came at the very end of the slide rule generation. I used slide rules at school, but by the time I got to University, calculators were on the way in. Very few younger people will understand the sheer elegance of a slide rule - how something of almost trivial mechanical simplicity could yet have such mathematical power. And yet, while I say that they were mechanically simple, they were also refined. They slid with a silky smoothness, and virtually no stop/start friction. Colours and markings were deeply considered. They had the kind of attention to the user interface that only Apple not manages. Visit this site for deep nostalgia - or total incomprehension.
