Dr. Jamanadas picks up where Dr. Ambedkar left off. These articles are a treasure trove of knowledge on the social and religious interface of Buddhism, Hinduism and even Islam in modern-day India. I was first introduced to him through an article entitled "Untouchables in the Twenty-first Century," which I hope to post online eventually. The persecution of untouchables, Jamanadas posits, can be traced all the way back to Pushyami tra Shunga's counterrevolution against Buddhism in 185 B.C. Unfortunately (as much as the Upper Caste Indian government would have you believe otherwise), untouchables are still in much the same social position they have always been in. As Jamandas puts it, though their position compares to the plight of African Slaves in America, these modern-day untouchables are not as well-known to the world, in no small part because "there is no Hindu who will not do his best to conceal truth in order to hide his shame." Untouchability is not a thing of the past, and it is naïve to think so.
