From the page: "America's Armageddonites Push for More War" Actually there are two versions of Armageddonites one the Christian Right and the Islamo-Fascists who believe that a world war must be started to catapult the superpowers into a world war against Islam lead by the Mahdi. The term "MAHDI" is a title meaning "The Guided one". Mahdi is a normal man who is going to follow the true Islam. His name will be Muhammad and his father name will be 'Abdullah. He is a descendant from Ali and Fatima (daughter of the prophet Muhammad (pbuh)) so he will be descendant from al-Hasan or al-Husain. Mahdi will be very just and his capital will be Damascus. Allah told us that Jews will master the world two times and Mahdi will appear between those two periods and will rule through the last one. Mahdi is NOT a prophet but he is the final Rightly Guided Khalifa. Mahdi will lead Muslims to a great victory against the Christian Romans (i.e. All the white Europeans including the Americans). This great war is called al-Malhamah al-Kubrah or Armageddon. It will end up with a great victory to Muslims against Romans after six years. Muslims will take over their capital Rome (this can be any city). In the seventh year, the Anticrist will apear and a greater war will start between Jews and Muslims for 40 days (longer that usual days) and will end when Jesus (pbuh) will come and Muslims will kill all Jews. All people will convert into Islam. Peace will pervade the whole world. So in order for the World to have peace the World must be enslaved by Islam. Islam means submission not peace.

Eager beaver world enders. From the page: "Some fundamentalist evangelicals have moved from forecasting Armageddon to actually trying to bring it about." "The overwhelming power and warmongering of the Armageddonites has inspired some resistance from other fundamentalists, but they are a minority. Theologian Richard Fenn writes, "Silent complicity (by mainline churches) with apocalyptic rhetoric soon becomes collusion with plans for religiously inspired genocide." Their death-wishing "religion" is actually anti-Christian and should be challenged openly by traditional Christians." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071105/ap_on_re_eu/britain_spy_chie f MI5: Children being groomed for terror From the link: "He called for greater efforts from the government and society to counter the message of radical preachers. "If we only react tactically while our enemies plan strategically, we shall be hard put to win this," Evans said. "It starts with rejection of the violent extremist ideology across society."

"Utopian fantasies have long transfixed the human race. Yet today a much rarer fantasy has become popular in the United States. Millions of Americans, the richest people in history, have a death wish. They are the new "Armageddonites," fundamentalist evangelicals who have moved from forecasting Armageddon to actually trying to bring it about."

There's a lot in this article to keep an atheist hopeful. For one thing, these fundamentalist "Armageddonites" want to leave just as much as I want them to leave. They want a heaven with no booze and no bars, and I want them to keep their mitts off the good booze and sleazy bars. Of course, we don't agree on everything: they are "beating the drums for war against Iran," while I gently noodle on the baritone saxophone of peace.

There's a specific change in foreign policy related to these religious wackos, though, which is a pretty monumental achievement for a group of people that reject nearly all science. They made us best friends with Israel. And why? Because they automatically get a free pass into heaven, being god's chosen people. Like any clubhopper slut trying to get into the VIP room, they're clumsily trying to get chummy with the guy who already has his hand stamped, and they don't care who they cut in line. So that has made them friends of Israel, made us accomplices in their war crimes, and left us with Zionists, CUFI, and their neverending conflict with Muslims. Israel's like a girlfriend I used to have: she would try to pick fights for me, just because she liked to see me fight - and here's Israel, goading us into yet another ill-advised war in the Middle East, this time against Iran. You know, I liked Christians better when they blamed Jews for killing Jesus, rather than trying to cozy up to them to try to tailgate them into heaven.

A part of me really wishes this rapture would just happen already. It'll let us live our lives in peace without these "Armageddonite" assholes.

America's Armageddonites Push for More War Some fundamentalist evangelicals have moved from forecasting Armageddon to actually trying to bring it about. ......."Most journalists find it difficult to take seriously that tens of millions of Americans, filled with fantasies of revenge and empowerment, long to leave a world they despise. These Armageddonites believe that they alone will get a quick, free pass when they are "raptured" to paradise, no good deeds necessary, not even a day of judgment. Ironically, they share this utopian fantasy with a group that they often castigate, namely fundamentalist Muslims who believe that dying in battle also means direct access to Heaven. For the Armageddonites, however, there are no waiting virgins, but they do agree with Muslims that there will be "no booze, no bars," in the words of a popular Gaither Singers song. These end-timers have great influence over the U.S. government's foreign policy. They are thick with the Republican leadership. At a recent conference in Washington, congressional leader Roy Blunt, for example, has said that their work is "part of God's plan." At the same meeting, where speakers promoted attacking Iran, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay glorified "end times." Indeed the Bush administration often consults with them on Mideast policies. The organizer of the conference, Rev. John Hagee, is often welcomed at the White House, although his ratings are among the lowest on integrity and transparency by Ministry Watch, which rates religious broadcasters. He raises millions of dollars from his campaign supporting Israeli settlements on the West Bank, including much for himself. Erstwhile presidential candidate Gary Bauer is on his Board of Directors. Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson also both expressed strong end-times beliefs. American fundamentalists strongly supported the decision to invade Iraq in 2003. They consistently support Israel's hard-line policies. And they are beating the drums for war against Iran."....... ....."Conservative Christian writer Gary North estimates the number of Armageddonites at about 20 million. Many of them have an ecstatic belief in the cleansing power of apocalyptic violence. They are among the more than 30% of Americans who believe that the world is soon coming to an end. Armageddonites may be a minority of the evangelicals, but they have vocal leaders and control 2,000 mostly fundamentalist religious radio stations."...... ....."Armageddonites know little about the outside world, which they think of as threatening and awash with Satanic temptations. They are big supporters of Bush's "go it alone" foreign policies. For example, they love John Bolton. They were prime supporters for attacking Iraq. And, with very few exceptions, they were noticeably quiet about, if not supportive, of torturing prisoners of war (only with a new leadership did the National Association of Evangelicals finally condemn torture in May, 2007). Their support of the Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani shows that they consider aggressively prosecuting Mideast war (to help speed up the apocalypse) more important than the domestic programs of these socially liberal politicians." The above extracts are taken from a three page article about the American (who else?) Armageddonites, which was sent to me by my evil twin. The whole article makes chilling, but compulsive, reading. It is a terrifying indictment of the land of the free that such a bunch of patently barmy loonies can wield so much power - but it answers a lot of questions. I wish that they would all get beamed up. The world would be a better place without them. Beam them uo now - before they can do any more damage.

"Some fundamentalist evangelicals have moved from forecasting Armageddon to actually trying to bring it about." Amazing to have survived the Reagan years. That was close. But here we are again. Only it's worse. This is a fascinating article charting the history of Armageddonites, those religious folks who think the end of the world is a good thing.
