I don't think some people read the entire article before commenting, and if so, maybe took it the wrong way. It's not about pushing your ideas on others, or manipulation and coercion. Seriously people, debate is about persuasion when it's about an idea that cannot completely be proved by fact either way. An honest debate still includes both people trying to convince each other of their idea. With that I take a quote from the text: That's how it works: people explain their ideas, debate them, make arguments to support them, revise or refine or drop them in the face of valid criticism, make snarky jokes in the face of stupid criticism. The marketplace of ideas won't flourish if people don't bring their ideas to the market. Being close-minded doesn't mean thinking you're right; it means refusing to reconsider your position, even when the evidence suggests that you're wrong. And being intolerant doesn't mean thinking other people are wrong; it means refusing to listen to them, and dismissing them entirely as stupid or wicked, simply because you disagree with them. Read carefully next time.

Don't see why it matters whether you follow a book that was crafted from as many as 1,000 manuscripts or if you don't. All the same to me. Just don't be a hypocrite about it either direction.

I wish atheist would talk about atheism instead of always talking about Christianity.

Atheists thinking they're right and pushing their ideas on others is just as bad as christianity, if not worse, because they think they're better than the christians.

My name is saigonteacher and I am atheist.........Shit am I as tedious as this character. There is a difference between debate and naval gazing. This article is naval gazing.

Just because belligerence is a necessary stage in promoting any radically opposing view doesn't mean the act itself isn't still contemptible. Angry atheism is in vogue at the moment, sure, and that in and of itself does serve a purpose. Let the evangelists do their evangelizing. But if that's to be an end rather than a means, well, what's the point in having tried at all?

Why do atheists talk so much about atheism? Well, Why do Christians talk so much about christianity?
