So what's the solution? Disown technology and move to Antarctica. You may miss the tech, but at least you'll have your privacy.

There is one HUGE problem with the logic here: Facebook is a site on which you make your personal information freely available to others. Making the personal information you make freely available to other, not be freely available to others, is rather difficult. Of course, if you have privacy options on, I can kinda see an argument, but social networking sites are for the purpose of sharing the information you don't mind sharing.

Intriguing and worrying. For those of you who would put this in the "tinfoil hat" category: I have a couple of friends in law enforcement (each working for different organisations). They have both been on courses relating to obtaining intelligence using the internet; they have subsequently been put off using the internet, even for basic on-line purchases. Given the nature of legislation over the past six years, nothing would surprise me about the level of intrusion by Government bodies, paying lip service to "privacy" and similar concepts. My thanks to AmataPingveno for this one.
